Backward-inclined, tube axial, vane axial, and certain centrifugal configurations may all be valid depending on the resistance curve. The wrong fan type can look economical up front and become expensive fast through poor airflow delivery and premature failure.
Material selection also matters. Corrosion resistance, motor enclosure, shutter quality, and belt-drive versus direct-drive design all affect service life. In dusty or contaminated environments, maintenance access is not a small detail. It affects whether the system actually performs six months after startup.
Common sizing mistakes
The most common error is sizing from miner heat output alone without accounting for the building. Another is underestimating intake area. Exhaust fans cannot perform correctly if intake openings are too small, too restrictive, or poorly located. That drives up static pressure, reduces delivered CFM, and increases amp draw and noise.
A third mistake is ignoring system balance. Exhaust-only designs can work well, but not in every facility. Some rooms need engineered make-up air, evaporative support, or controls integration to maintain acceptable temperatures through changing ambient conditions. Hot weather design is where weak assumptions usually show up.
